Enjoyed this sooooo much: "Eat Your Heart Out" by Kelly deVos It was described as Dumplin meets Shaun of the Dead, but it has pretty strong Scream vibes because of the way it leans into YA and horror tropes (sometimes too heavily?) At some point I would have appreciated seeing a twist on the expected/predicted outcome. Eat Your Heart Out is a satirical zombie horror novel, and yes, I really did just say that. This book is fierce and sassy in the best of ways, and it is totally unafraid to speak its mind. There's a vast cast of characters - all of whom seem to fall into classical horror movie archetypes. Eat Your Heart Out by Kelly deVos. Ap theelvenwarrior. *Spoiler free*. Thank you so much to Razorbill and NatGalley for the e-ARC! Vivian Ellenshaw is fat, but she knows she doesn't need to lose weight, so she's none too happy to find herself forced into a weight-loss camp's van with her ex-best friend, Allie, a meathead jock.
“Eat Your Heart Out is a very humorous and satirical look at body positivity and diet culture This is a book I would've loved to have when I was a teen To have an entire book filled with large characters who use the positives of their bodies to their advantage, instead of being bullied and ridiculed is a welcomed breath of fresh air. A YA zombie novel with great characters and an exciting, fast-paced plot, Eat Your Heart Out is the perfect mix of action, horror, humor, and touching moments. Satirical, ironic, suspenseful, and scientifically scary, the novel has a fantastic cast of characters, especially Vivian. She is strong and funny and vibrant, and she is unapologetic. Shaun of the Dead meets Dumplin' in this bitingly funny YA thriller about a kickass group of teens battling a ravenous group of zombies. In the next few hours, one of three things will happen.
